Dandelion has many benefits to it, and it’s right in your backyard. It can assist in weight loss. It can detox your system. It strengthens your immune system. It is used to treat liver, kidney, and gallbladder problems and it is very high in potassium and Vitamin A. Right now, there are human clinical trials testing if the extract from dandelion root might help treat blood-related cancers like lymphoma and leukemia.
The Weed That Helps Treat Cancer
The University of Maryland Medical Center claimed that the dandelion flower contains strong antioxidant properties which can avert cancer. The root extract was found to induce programmed cell death, also known as apoptosis, in pancreatic cancer cells. In lab mice tests, the extract killed leukemia and melanoma cancer cells.
In a recent study from researchers at The University of Maryland, Dandelion Root extract “caused the collapse of the mitochondrial membrane potential, leading to prodeath autophagy.” The study also stated that “normal human fibroblasts were resistant at similar doses.” We hope that there will be more scientific data soon that shows that the root extract is truly beneficial. In the meantime, it doesn’t hurt to start adding this into your diet.
